Finding the Perfect Hotel for Your Family

Online booking and popular family finds

What you should know about booking online

It’s harder to get a deal online if you’re looking for a family package. Discount websites like Priceline or Quikbook offer rock-bottom rates, but you may miss out on some amenities. For example, a hotel that normally includes a buffet breakfast in the room rate can opt not to offer it to you if you got the room through Priceline. However, some hotel chains, such as Hyatt http://www.hyatt.com/, Fairmont http://www.fairmont.com/, and Sheraton http://www.sheraton.com/ offer special online-only deals, so look online before you book. Keep in mind that access to things like swimming pools doesn’t change no matter how you booked your room.

Popular family finds

Some hotel chains specialize in catering to kids. Some popular favorites are below. Keep in mind, the offerings listed here can change at any time.

  • Four Seasons All young guests can enjoy snacks of cookies and milk, in-room video games and movies, and large swimming pools. For an extra fee, babysitting services are available, and the hotel offers packages that include admissions to top city attractions.
  • Holiday Inn A longtime favorite for families on a budget. Kids under 18 stay for free in their parents’ room, and kids under 12 dine for free at the hotel’s restaurants. Many properties in the chain have an outdoor pool; some have other activity centers for children.
  • Omni The Omni Kids program guarantees that, upon arrival, every child receives a welcome bag filled with goodies: a colorful watch, an activity book with crayons, a sports cup, playing cards, sunglasses, a postcard and a magnetic photo frame. Families are given a list of local children’s attractions with details on their location and hours of operation.
  • Westin This luxury is better known for appealing to business travelers than active tykes. But the Westin Kids Club for those 12 and under, gives kids welcome gifts and keeps them occupied with coloring books, toys and in-room video games during their stay.
