Family Travel Guide: Chicago

Frank Sinatra sang about Chicago as a “toddlin’ town,” but today it could be called a toddlers’ town. Sure, it’s a big city, but it’s hard to imagine a friendlier place for families with young children. Most of Chicago’s attractions have a multigenerational appeal, so planning an itinerary is child’s play. Its most famous attraction is the Sears Tower, but after you and the small fry get that bird’s-eye view of the city and Lake Michigan, here are some sights that will hold your interest for the long haul.
Quick Tips to Start
- CityPass (http://www.citypass.com/) offers a great way to see some of Chicago’s top attractions for a discount. You’ll get into the Art Institute, the Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, and several other attractions for $49.50. The kids’ pass for those aged three to eleven is $39.
- Riding on Chicago’s subway trains can be entertaining in and of itself, since many of them are elevated. Since many of the attractions are spread around town, it’s a great way to get around.
- Chicagoans are so proud of their city that they’ll show visitors around for free. To book a tour with a local, contact the City of Chicago Greeter Service (http://www.chicagogreeter.com/).
