Welcome to the Garden State

New Jersey, although geographically on the smaller side, offers residents and visitors alike interesting and fun places to explore and enjoy. When the weather gets warm, the shores become flooded with people wanting to take a dip into the ocean, or walk up and down the boardwalk. The fall provides opportunities for hiking and apple picking, while the winter brings with it snow and an excuse to try some mountain skiing.

For those who love wildlife, New Jersey has activities and natural wonders from the coast to the mountains. We have slopes for the skiers and snowboarders, horseback riding trails and stables for the equestrians, and gardens rich with flora and fauna for those looking to see why NJ is dubbed the “Garden State.” The coast line provides many opportunities for water enthusiasts who are looking to fish, boat, water ski, and more.

Must-see attractions in New Jersey include: Mountain Creek in Vernon, which has a water park, hiking areas, and winter skiing; The Space Farms Museum and Zoo in Beemerville; Columbia's Lakota Wolf Preserve, which is home to wolves, bobcats, and foxes; Northlandz, home of the largest miniature railroad in the world; Story Land Park at Fairy Tale Forest in Oak Ridge; The Liberty Science Center at Liberty State Park in Jersey City; and ferry service to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (taken from Liberty State Park).

For history buffs, the path to America's independence from British rule can literally be found in New Jersey at Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville. After crossing the ice-filled Delaware River on the night of Dec. 25, 1776, Gen. George Washington and the Continental Army landed at Johnson's Ferry, which is now part of the park. Once assembled on shore, Washington's army began the nine-mile march to Trenton and the first American Revolutionary War victory over Hessian troops. Visitors to the park can see the actual trail that led to Trenton and marked the beginning of America's successful quest for freedom and independence. Washington Crossing State Park is located in the Delaware River Region, which has been called the Crossroads of the American Revolution. The region, as well as the rest of New Jersey, has a plethora of distinctive historical sites to choose from.

The state is covered with quaint country retreats, Victorian homes, and seaside cottages. Bed & breakfast inns and major hotels offer relaxing accommodations. Every year more visitors discover why New Jersey is such a popular destination, offering no end of romantic and family getaways.
