Think slots and shows are the only thing Vegas has to offer? Think again! There's a wealth of fun (and free!) stuff to do for families with children of all ages.
Find out why Las Vegas is one of BabyZone's Top 10 Family Travel Hot Spots:
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? Not from where I'm standing. As a local mom and hostess to many the visiting out-of-town families stopping in to be wowed, I can tell you from experience that Las Vegas is definitely a trip that you will want to share in full detail with everyone back home.
Every year thousands of families come to Las Vegas for excitement on and off of the strip. Fun is guaranteed for parents and children of all ages. When deciding where to stay, try to choose off-season and holiday dates when booking your room, and use discounted programs like Hotels.com (don't forget to check the many flight-hotel combination packs available through many online travel sites).
Before beginning any Vegas adventure—whether on the strip or in a national park—pack a backpack (or diaper bag) with plenty of water. Also be sure to take along some snacks. Like many tourist spots, food in Las Vegas can be quite expensive.
If your vacation plans are for the spring or summer, be sure to dress light for the desert heat; and although the spring and fall days can be quite warm in as well, pack a sweater or jacket for the sometimes chilly Vegas night.
What can you do in Vegas with little kids in tow? What isn't there to do is more like it! Outside the excitement of the strip, Las Vegas is surrounded with some of the most breathtaking wonders in America, like the Hoover Dam. Just 30 to 45 minutes (depending on traffic) outside of town, the Hoover Dam is one of seven man-made wonders of the world and one of the worlds most visited tourist destinations, attracting more than seven million visitors from around the world annually. The entire family will enjoy the complete tour to the top of the dam with its spectacular views of the dam, Lake Mead, and the Colorado River below. Admission fees are quite affordable and little ones will love wearing hard hats just like the tour guides and dam workers. Strollers, diaper bags, and cameras are welcome, and there are plenty of family-friendly restrooms as well as a snack bar.
