Have you always dreamed of spending time on a lovely tropical island with your family? You and your kids will enjoy the Hawaiian island of Oahu with its many outdoor activities and friendly aloha spirit. Bask in the sun on one of many public watering holes and beaches, hike into the mountains on a cool tropical path featuring unique flora and fauna, seek out a multitude of ethnic foods, and have a picnic in one of many beautiful parks. Just one of seven major islands in the State of Hawaii, Oahu is much more than just Waikiki, its well-known sub-city.

When traveling with babies and toddlers, a stroller is a must. Don't want to pack baby gear? Rent what you need! Don't forget to bring the sunscreen and a comfortable bag or fanny pack. As for getting around, a rental car is optional, but the local bus system offers a four-day unlimited pass and the Waikiki Trolley offers a one or four-day pass. Both will take you to most attractions and have convenient stops all over the island.

For families with young children, there are many venues to explore. The Honolulu Zoo offers a petting park with a walk-through Koi pond, a safari setting with a close-up view, a walk-through bird sanctuary, a zoo train, and many animals in their natural habitats. Just a block away is the The Waikiki Aquarium where children can get an underwater view of sea creatures and visit a large shark tank and a Hawaiian monk seal exhibit. The Children's Discovery Museum offers a toddler play area, a kid's town and global tour complete with dress-up costumes, a giant bubble blower, and much more. The Sea Life Park amazes the kids with its huge 300,000-gallon aquarium, sea lion and dolphin shows, and marine life exhibits.

The older kids will enjoy the Dole Plantation, boasting the world's largest maze, and trying to beat the posted completion times. The Bishop Museum offers a look the Hawaiian History, a full-size whale exhibit, a planetarium, a science museum with a walk-through volcano, and a special interactivity exhibit that changes monthly.

Young surfers will enjoy the North Shore's beautiful beaches known for their waves, or Hanauma Bay, known for its snorkeling and abundant sea life.
