Welcome to Vancouver—A Top 10 Family Travel Destination!

By Kate Harvey

Looking for a great family-friendly destination this year? Consider vacationing in Vancouver! There's much to do any time of year.

Find out why Vancouver is one of BabyZone's Top 10 Family Travel Hot Spots:

Mercer Human Resources Consulting recently named Vancouver, British Columbia, one of the three best places to live, and it's easy to see why. Vancouver brings together the best of mountains, ocean, and city—it's a family destination for all seasons and will also be host to the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Summer brings temperatures in the high 60s (20s Celsius), and rarely exceeds 70 degrees (30 C). Even on the warmest day, the evenings are pleasantly cool, so be sure to pack a sweater or sweatshirt for you and your children.

One of the city's greatest attractions and scene of natural splendor, is Stanley Park. With 1,000 acres of beauty, surrounding you with Hemlock and Douglas fir trees, breathtaking views, gardens, and activities galore, the park offers something for everyone. It is a terrific must-see for families!

Meet and greet the birds of Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park—home to ducks, Canada geese, and even majestic swans. Explore the Lost Lagoon Nature House or peer into the deep at the Vancouver Aquarium and Marine Science Centre. Then hop aboard the Stanley Park Miniature Train for a fun forest ride or explore the animals at the Children's Farmyard.

Lace up your shoes, grab your stroller, and head out to Stanley Park for a spectacular five-mile walk around the Seawall, taking in the view of Canada Place and the Lions Gate Bridge. Capture your family memories with great photo opportunities along the way at the Brockton Point Lighthouse and Totem Poles. Or try a horse-drawn carriage from Stanley Park Tours.

Cool off at the children's water park at Lumberman's Arch or the Second Beach Pool, an outdoor saltwater swimming pool open May through September, with a great playground.

Share a meal at the Prospect Point Café and concessions at the Children's Farmyard, Lumbermen's Arch, or Second Beach and Third Beach. English Bay and Denman Street are also good options, or bring your own lunch and host a picnic in the shade.
