The Sierra Club
What is it? If your family loves outdoor adventure, this is a perfect way to go wild. The Sierra Club offers a wide array of eco-adventures, though for families with elementary-school-age children the options are more limited. Still, there are great family excursions like rafting the Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park, or canoeing in Florida’s Everglades National Park.
Don’t miss The Sierra Club is a mighty voice advocating for the preservation of wilderness areas, and you can expect extremely well-trained guides who will be able to point out what’s special about local flora and fauna. They’ll answer all of your kids’ questions – and yours, too.
Keep in mind While the Sierra Club clearly identifies which trips are family-appropriate (and it screens potential participants to try to ensure their physical fitness level is appropriate for the journey), it’s important to remember that they can be extremely rigorous. Age restrictions vary from trip to trip, but the minimum age is normally 8.
How much? Fees vary widely by trip but start at $775 for kids and $875 for adults for a five-day excursion to the Everglades. Transportation to the trip’s starting point is not included, and participants many need to provide some of their own equipment, such as tents.
